So, you\u2019ve finished your exams, handed in your dissertation and are wondering what to do for the summer holidays. It just so happens that the wonderful city of Bristol comes alive over summer with plenty of festivals, sunny days and the finest cider in the country. So, here are a list of reasons to spend your summer in Bristol\u2026<\/p>\n

1. Balloon fiesta<\/strong><\/h4>\n

For one weekend<\/a> in August, the skies of Bristol are filled with hot air balloons. Thousands descend upon Ashton Court to watch balloons lift off and enjoy the rides, food and entertainment available on site. The night glow is the highlight of the four-day event and getting to the event is easy with shuttle buses running from the city centre every ten minutes!<\/p>\n

2. Comedy Garden
\n<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Bristol has produced some of the finest comedians on the scene with the likes of Russell Howard, Stephen Merchant and John Robbins originating from this fine city. And from the 14th<\/sup>-18th<\/sup> June, even more of the country\u2019s funniest people gather at Queens Square for a weekend full of laughs. This year\u2019s line-up includes Greg Davies, Sara Pascoe, Rich Hall, David O\u2019Doherty and many more – be sure to get your tickets<\/a> before it\u2019s too late!<\/p>\n

3. Enjoy a cider on The Apple
\n<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Bristol is famous for its cider, and there\u2019s no better place to be on a sunny afternoon than outside enjoying a cold, refreshing drink. So, head to The Apple<\/a>; a beautifully converted Dutch barge with a large quayside terrace and deck bar, to soak up the sun and admire the views. Amongst the 40 different ciders available, give the \u2018Old Bristolian\u2019 a try \u2013 it\u2019s The Apple\u2019s own speciality cider, but at 8.4% ABV it\u2019s not for the faint hearted.<\/p>\n

4. Harbour festival
\n<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Bristol Harbour Festival<\/a> is held every July and spans over the harbour side and Queens Square. The event is FREE to attend and there are live music performances and entertainment running across the weekend. From arts, circus and dance, to boats and nautical capers there\u2019s something for everyone to enjoy. And, it wouldn\u2019t be a festival without a variety of tasty food and drink available for you to indulge in.<\/p>\n

5. Escape the city
\n<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Living in the centre of a bustling city like Bristol can make those country folk yearn for the sight of green fields and wide open spaces. Ashton Court<\/a> \u2013 a beautiful mansion house and estate with woodland, meadows, wildlife and much more, lies just beyond the Clifton Suspension Bridge, and is the perfect spot to escape the city. It\u2019s free to enter, and after a relaxing walk in the sun, stop off at the gorgeous caf\u00e9 for some well earnt tea and cake.<\/p>\n

6. Spend the day Banksy hunting
\n<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The elusive street artist Banksy hails from Bristol and has left his mark over the city. Our student accommodation, King Square Studios, lies between two of his pieces of art. Taking you through Stokes Croft and up to College Green, an afternoon Banksy hunting<\/a> is the perfect activity when the sun\u2019s shining.<\/p>\n

7. Eat ice cream at Brandon Hill
\n<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Brandon Hill<\/a> is situated just off of Park Street and has some of the best views in Bristol. Ascend Brandon Tower and make sure you treat yourself to an ice cream once you\u2019ve made it to the bottom. Fun fact, many scenes of Bristol-based teen drama Skins<\/em> were filmed at this location!<\/p>\n
