Throughout the year, all university’s hold open days, a day where the university opens up its campuses to all prospective undergraduate and in some cases postgraduate students who are interested in studying there. It\u2019s the perfect opportunity for students to really get a feel for what student and university life is all about. Check out Opendays.com<\/a> for the latest university open days.<\/p>\n

So, to help you get the most out of attending an open day, below are some helpful tips.<\/p>\n

1. Plan your day<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The university will have a whole host of events and activities lined up for the Open Day, including general admission talks, course\/subject specific talks, Q&A sessions, campus tours, Student Union events as well as accommodation and city tours. With so much going on in one day, it\u2019s unlikely you\u2019ll be able to cram everything into your visit. That\u2019s why it\u2019s important to check the day\u2019s itinerary before you arrive. Choose to attend the things that are most important to you.<\/p>\n

2. Speak to people<\/strong><\/h4>\n

On the day, there will be lots of people to speak to and on hand to answer any question that you may have. Speak to lecturers about the course you\u2019re interested in studying. Find out more about the university and admissions process from university staff, and speak to current students to hear their experiences. Ask lots of questions, and remember no question is a silly question; now is your opportunity to find out more about university and your future.<\/p>\n

3. Explore the city<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Being a student and going to university isn\u2019t just about the university. Although you\u2019ll likely spend a lot of time there, it\u2019s important that the city itself is a place you\u2019ll enjoy being and feel comfortable living in. So, take some time out and explore the city away from campus. It\u2019ll help to give you an idea of where things are in comparison to the university and what\u2019s close by, and also what the city has to offer. Visit the tourist spots and learn more about the city that could potentially be your home for the next few years.<\/p>\n

4. Check out the accommodation<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Unless you live locally and can commute to university, you\u2019re more than likely going to need a place to live whilst studying. From university halls and private purpose-built student accommodation such as that offered by Host<\/a>, to privately rented houses, there are lots of living options available to students. So, whilst you\u2019re at the Open Day, it\u2019s a good idea to visit some accommodations. Get a feel for what\u2019s on offer and the type of place you would prefer to live in.<\/p>\n

5. Have fun<\/strong><\/h4>\n

An Open Day is all about getting a feel for student and university life, and that involves having fun. The universities will have lots of fun activities planned around campus and so will the students\u2019 unions, so don\u2019t be afraid to get involved and enjoy yourself!<\/p>\n
