Being environmentally friendly is more important than ever before. If we want to live on a planet with clean water, fresh air and a diversity of plants and animals, we have to do everything we can to protect it.\"Host<\/p>\n

At Host, we\u2019re doing our bit where we can to conserve energy and reduce waste; and we\u2019re encouraging our students to do the same. This month, we\u2019re launching, across all of our accommodations, the #HostEnvironmentalPledge<\/strong><\/span> campaign 2021.<\/p>\n

As a result of the\u00a02020 environmental campaign<\/a> and everyone\u2019s hard work, we’ll be donating a significant amount of money to last year’s nominated charities – BulliesOut<\/a>,\u00a0Planet Patrol<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0World Land Trust<\/a>. These charities will all receive a donation from Host to make some positive changes to those in need.<\/p>\n

So, following the success of last year\u2019s campaign, we\u2019re back for round two! It\u2019s exactly the same concept and goal, the only difference is we\u2019re supporting three new charities in the process.<\/p>\n

What is the #HostEnvironmentalPledge?<\/h4>\n

\"shower\u00a0\"energy\u00a0\"some<\/p>\n

The main aim of this campaign is to save energy. We want to reduce the amount of electric, gas and water that we consume at our sites over the year.<\/p>\n

Through small actions such as turning off your lights when leaving a room, unplugging chargers when not in use, or taking shorter showers, we can help make a difference to protect the planet we live on.<\/p>\n

In consuming less energy, we will contribute towards reducing the number of toxic fumes and greenhouse gas emissions being released into the environment. And in return for saving energy, we will also be donating money to charity.<\/p>\n

Who are we supporting?<\/h4>\n

\"Bullies<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\"Planet<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\"world<\/a><\/p>\n

If we can reduce our overall consumption by 1% then we will donate \u00a310,000 to charity. If we make a 2% reduction, we\u2019ll donate \u00a320,000, 3% is \u00a330,000 and so on.<\/p>\n

The three charities we\u2019ve chosen to support and donate this money to are: BulliesOut<\/a>, Planet Patrol<\/a> and World Land Trust<\/a>.<\/p>\n

So, through this campaign, not only does the environment benefit \u2013 with less greenhouse gas emissions being released into the air, but so do these three fantastic charities.<\/p>\n

How to get involved<\/h4>\n

Information about the campaign and each of the charities will be popping up at our accommodations and across our social media channels.<\/p>\n

All of our residents will be invited via email to choose one of the three charities to support. In selecting a charity, students and staff will pledge to make small changes to their daily habits. For example, how they heat their room, power their appliances and use water.<\/p>\n

If Host’s carbon footprint is reduced sufficiently, we will, on behalf of our students and staff, donate money to the charity they have chosen.<\/p>\n

Follow us on Facebook<\/a>, Instagram<\/a> and Twitter<\/a> for the latest campaign updates. Let us know what changes you\u2019re making and which charity you\u2019re pledging to make the changes for. You can also share any top tips with us \u2013 remember to use the hashtag #hostenvironmentalpledge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"recyclingDon’t forget you can also reduce your environmental impact through simple actions such as reducing your food waste<\/a> and recycling<\/a> the products and packaging you use every day. Speak with your on-site Host team to find out more about recycling facilities at your accommodation.<\/p>\n

Wasting less and recycling more saves energy and saves money. It’s also one of the fastest, easiest, and most effective ways we can all help to curb climate change.<\/p>\n
