Its okay not to be okay. Loneliness is more common than you think. You are not alone.<em> The 2022 Student Academic Experience Survey asked questions about loneliness for the first time and found nearly one in four students (23%) reported feeling lonely \u201call\u201d or \u201cmost\u201d of the time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Loneliness doesn\u2019t last forever; it will come and go. Read on to help you understand how you are feeling and the changes you can make.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>How to tell if you\u2019re lonely.<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26226\" src=\"https:\/\/host-students.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/lonely1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"965\" height=\"368\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Loneliness comes in lots of different forms.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Feeling left out and never getting invited to events<\/li>\n<li>No one to hang out with<\/li>\n<li>No one wants to join in on my plans<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t have anyone you feel close to<\/li>\n<li>Feel stuck in your room<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>None of these? Feeling alone even when people are around is also a common symptom of depression or social anxiety.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>How to meet new people.<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26227\" src=\"https:\/\/host-students.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/lonely2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"965\" height=\"368\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Join a society<\/li>\n<li>Get a part time job<\/li>\n<li>Volunteer<\/li>\n<li>Make an effort to talk to people on your course<\/li>\n<li>Look for easy talking points &#8211; compliment on an outfit or bag could lead to a conversation that may be the start of a friendship<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Take care of yourself.<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26228\" src=\"https:\/\/host-students.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/lonely3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"965\" height=\"368\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep going to classes<\/li>\n<li>Exercise regularly &#8211; It&#8217;s been well documented how beneficial regular activity can be for both your mental and physical health<\/li>\n<li>Get out of your room<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Friendships take time, especially genuine ones.
